Last month we highlighted the amazing work and words of advice given by various women across the Caribbean region in the field of Science.

This month, we are pleased to celebrate women once again, this time as part of International Women’s Day. This year’s theme marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity and the race to build a more gender-balanced world - #BalanceforBetter.

As such, we bring to you some insights and words of advice from the Co-Founder of REgenTT, Ms. Lydia Singh. Last week, she shared with a large group of young and enthusiastic form 3 female students at the Bishops Anstey High School East, some of her personal experiences as a student moving into the male-dominated field of Engineering , Construction and the corporate world.

This stems from the launch of the WE4 Network (E4 - Educate, Empower, Elevate, Evolve ) one of REgenTT’s initiatives aimed at educating and empowering young girls and women (click on link to learn more!)

The following are three (3) important closing statements she left the girls with:

1) “Always remember how fortunate and blessed you are to be a young female living in Trinidad and Tobago - The opportunity to have access to education, without discrimination, is one of the greatest gifts you can have. There are millions of girls in places like Africa and India, who dream of going to school but unfortunately are left to work at home or for others. Education is the key to Empowerment. Know that you are supported and loved. With the creation of the WE4 network, you will have access to local, regional and international group of passionate, professional ladies (and men) across various fields who will, with the support from teachers, provide guidance and mentorship to ensure you are fully equipped and prepared for the world of work.

2) Wear your uniform with pride - As you put on your uniforms in the morning, I’ll like you to remember that you not only represent yourself and your family but know that you are also representing the millions of young girls who aren’t as fortunate to go to school and learn each day.

3) Dream BIG! - During challenging times, it’ll be your dreams that’ll lift you up and help you through. Your imagination, vision for yourself, your future and the future of the world, that’ll provide the strength and courage to overcome the challenges and grow. Don’t stop dreaming and dream big!”

In closing, REgenTT will like to acknowledge and celebrate the endless contribution and sacrifices of women across the globe, to the upliftment of society; the stewards, nurturers and co-creators of a brighter future.
